About Us

Cartrefi Cymru was founded as a charity in 1989 and has grown so successfully that we now employ over 1,200 people across Wales.

Some staff provide vital administrative services from our twelve offices, all of which have networked ICT and meeting facilities.

The majority of our staff are involved in directly supporting people with learning disabilities, or other special needs, in their local communities.

Usually this means providing round-the-clock support to people in their own homes. But we also provide sessional support for people who only need a little help, or who are living with their families.

We also provide opportunities for people to have a short break away from home, and this can give family carers some free time and a chance to relax.

Our Challenge

All our work is based on a commitment to creating a society where everyone enjoys full rights and responsibilities as citizens. We believe in respecting people, seeing everyone as a unique individual, and supporting people to achieve their ambitions, such as greater independence or a wider network of friends.

But the people we support often face huge obstacles. Their disabilities can make it difficult to perform some ordinary tasks and many need help with basic things like dressing, eating, personal care, housework, shopping or planning holidays.

In addition, people face negative attitudes and barriers within society. As a result, our work often involves helping neighbours and local communities to be positive and welcoming.

We are always striving to be the best we can be. So make no mistake: working for us can be a challenge. But you will find it offers endless opportunities and real rewards, both for you and the people you'll be supporting.
